AMY, THE ENGLISH TUTOR

AMY, THE ENGLISH TUTOR
Making English accessible to all

A BIT ABOUT ME
In 2017, I began my tutoring career by starting my teaching training. During this time, I discovered my enjoyment of working one to one with students in order to truly cater the curriculum to their specific requirements and interests. Since then, I have been adapting my teaching style in order to allow me to help every student that I encounter in my profession.
Prior to becoming a teacher, I acquired my Bachelors Degree in History and English, as well as a Masters in Gothic Literature. I now hold a Postgraduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) in English and am looking to commence my PhD in the new academic year!
I now work from home on a permanent basis - allowing me the chance to work with a range of clients nationally!
I believe that I am a fun and inquisitive person, which has fuelled my interest in personalising my teaching of the English specification. My main focus in my tutoring is to ensure that all students are able to leave each lesson with more confidence and certainty in themselves.
LESSONS AND SPECIALTIES
Within my tutoring, I attempt to make the curriculum as accessible and interesting to each individual as possible. This involves a great deal of differentiation and reflection in order to ensure that my students remain engaged, whilst continuing to develop their knowledge. I have a great deal of experience in teaching Key Stage 3-5, with most of my experience lying in the AQA and Edexcel specifications. I recognise that each student's experience of education is unique and my sole focus is to make sure that I can prepare my students as much as possible whilst they gain a new appreciation as to what the English curriculum can offer. Education is about giving young adults the ability to prepare themselves for the opportunities and challenges of the future. Therefore, I strive to ensure that my tutoring gives each young adult the best chance prior to starting their journey in the adult world.

ONE-ON-ONE LESSONS
I offer one-to-one sessions online in order to suit your needs.

RESOURCES
Within my tutoring, I provide a range of resources that allow students to continue to access the learning. Each resource is personalised based on the student's requirements and accessibility, enabling my resources to help students past the tutoring sessions.
Amy has been a wonderful English Literature tutor for my son. Since their first meeting, where Amy took the time to understand his needs and get to know him, he has enjoyed every session. He always says after the lesson that he finds them very beneficial. Amy has been very good at getting him to understand the benefits of working hard and also agreeing a plan to make sure each topic within the GCSE exam is covered. Amy also sends through extra resources which she feels may be of use to assist him further in his learning. He is really pleased to see that his test results are improving and he passed his recent mock exam too! We both highly recommend Amy!

Amy has been wonderful in her continued encouragement whilst working with our son that has helped him a lot. This has not only assisted with his preparation for GCSE English, but as a result of a better comprehension, he is now performing better in other subjects as well.
Amy has gone above and beyond to help him. She is very efficient in setting up the work and extremely organised to ensure that he remains focused under her direct supervision . Her interactive and flexible style of teaching has been helpful in building confidence. We have noticed a clear difference in our son’s articulation and writing skills; we are very lucky to have such a great tutor who works according to the needs of her pupil.

I first took my English GCSE in 2010 and came away with a D. Desperate for a pass, I took the course again on and off over several years - achieving the same result. After that, I will admit that I gave up. But, then in 2019, I told myself I’d give it one last attempt and enrolled on the GCSE at night school. This was going well until the pandemic hit and I again ended up with a D/Grade 3. I decided to enter myself for the autumn exams and also get external help which is when I was put into contact with Amy, who was immediately enthusiastic and professional (which was a great relief as over the years I’ve not had much luck with teachers). She interpreted my needs from the start and let me set the pace of progression and encouraged me to believe that I could actually get the result I wanted. I had just over two months with her bespoke tutoring and achieved a grade higher than I thought possible - grade 6 (B). I do not think it would have been possible without Amy!!!

My son struggled with English during his GCSEs, lacked confidence and achieved a 3. However, with Amy's tailored support, he gained confidence and jumped 2 grades in just 6 weeks! He felt that Amy had help him learn more in this time than he had over the last two years at school.
